Calcaneal Bursitis/ Retrocalcaneal Bursitis

Bursitis is where a small fluid filled sac called a bursa becomes inflamed and forms under the heel bone. This may cause pain which is typically experienced more to the centre of the heel. Bursa pain occurs when it is irritated and becomes inflamed, it can cause the back of the heel to look swollen. This can be due to wearing shoes that don’t fit well (most common cause of Calcaneal Bursitis), certain activities like running or walking long distances and underlying health issues like arthritis.
