Tarsal Tunnel Syndrome

Tarsal Tunnel is caused by the compression of the tibial nerve which can cause symptoms anywhere along the path of the nerve, running along the inside of the ankle into the foot. This can occur from lots of different causes such as injury or trauma, flat feet, diabetes, inflammation etc. It can sometimes feel like a burning sensation or tingling, pins and needles under the heel and in the arch of the foot. Occasionally it can cause the bottom of the foot to feel numb. Symptoms vary depending on each individual.

What Can We Do?

  • We can assess and diagnose what is causing the Tarsal Tunnel and then set up a treatment plan for you.
  • We can help to decrease the pain and improve foot function and gait.
  • We can provide custom orthotics with the aim to alter the position of the foot, so the nerve isn’t compressed.

How To Ease Them

  • Rest the foot, use an ice pack for 20 minutes at a time and keep the foot compressed and elevated.
  • Oral anti- inflammatory medications to reduce the pain and inflammation.
  • Support sleeve for your heel.
