Chronic Inflammation Of The Heel Pad

This is caused by a change in the thickness and elasticity of the heel pad and sometimes heavy heel strikes. It’s typically caused by wear and tear of the muscle fibres that make up the cushioned pad on the soles of your feet. The pads act as cushions when you walk, run, jump, absorbing shock and distributing your body weight to protect your bones and joints. It is normal for our heels to wear down over time. This can cause a dull ache in the heel when walking or standing and can increase through the day with normal activities, it may feel like the foot is bruised. Many factors can contribute to heel pad pain, such as age, foot structure and gait, plantar fasciitis, excess body weight, hard surfaces and repetitive high impact activities, fat pad atrophy and heel spurs.
